Tex-Mex Flaco Jimenez Norteno Tejano Accordion 70 Min. Instructional DVD
Flaco Jimenez is the best known of the talented Jimenez family of TexMex accordionists. He has always been popular in the border region, and came to the attention of the wider popmusicbuying public with the help of rootsmusic enthusiast Ry Cooder. Since then Jimenez has toured internationally, made guest appearances on a number of recordings, teamed up with Doug Sahm and Freddy Fender in The Texas Tornados, and continued to record on small labels for the Texas Norteno community.
Whether you call it Musica Nortena, Tejano, Conjunto or Tex-Mex, this exciting accordion-fueled music continues to grow in popularity. Flaco Jimenez and Tim Alexander show you how to play on a three row diatonic accordion in note-for-note detail. Even complete beginners will master several popular Tex-Mex tunes after working with this DVD.
Flaco explains that accordion playing is based on a variety of patterns: Once you have learned them, making music becomes as natural as breathing. He and Tim teach basic chord and rhythm patterns, along with a variety of ornaments-grace notes, trills, bellows shaking, hammer-ons, glissandos- which Flaco says add flavo to songs "like spices to food". You'll also learn the arpeggios, harmonies, scale patterns, solos and endings that define this musical style.
